Sofia Vairinho

Professor, Head of GAPI at UAlg

University of the Algarve

PhD Cum Laude in Legal Sciences, specializing in Intellectual Property Rights and Spin-off creation, with a Master’s in Business Legal Consultancy and a Postgraduate degree in Corporate Law from the University of Coimbra. Since 2003, she serves as Head of the IP and Licensing Unit (GAPI, an EPO PATLIB Centre) at the University of Algarve’s Division of Entrepreneurship and Technology Transfer (CRIA) and is invited Professor at UAlg.
Her international experience includes roles as Manager for Business Development and Licensing at Carnegie Mellon University (USA), International Consultant for the U.S. Government’s Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP), and collaboration with an international law firm in Glasgow. She is an Expert with the European Patent Office (EPO) and the EU Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), and contributes to European Commission initiatives on knowledge valorisation.
Sofia has published and presented widely on intellectual property, technology transfer, and entrepreneurship, and supports regional innovation through the Algarve Systems and Technology Partnership (Algarve STP).
